Annnnnd Finally, Back To The Guest Room….

You were beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen, weren’t you?   You were beginning to think that maybe I’d forgotten?  That somehow, perhaps, I would go even smaller?  Maybe I’d find a way to organize my pantry next?!  That I would decide I needed to a complete overhaul on my shower stall?!  I know, I know!!  My entry closet!!!

I kid….  Yes, finally, officially, I am *back* to focusing on the guest room!  I had originally intended to do it first, and well, I got sidetracked.  To see my original guest room post, please visit here– www.lovenestdesign.com/happy-new-year-lets-get-this-party-started/.  I’m glad to be back on track!

Trying To Pick A Paint

Trying To Pick A Paint

We had some guests this last weekend, our good friend Brecca and her three lovely youngers, and I couldn’t help but *wish* that I had done what I’d wanted to from the get-go, and focused on that room.  I would be done, and I would be proudly walking guests into it, hoping that they felt comfort and warmth, rather than making excuses….  The best I can hope for now is that I get my butt in gear before they return at the end of the semester.

The side table above is the best that I could muster for my guests at the moment.  A bunch of grape hyacinth nabbed from the front yard in a tiny juice glass… ah well, sweetness that she is, Brecca loved it.  She even kindly signed my guest book, the first entry!  I’m glad the space was welcoming enough that at least she plans on coming again….

Tallulah On the Bed

Tallulah On the Bed

So, where was I?  I had talked about how I had furniture for the room:  a couple-three Victorian era pieces in the form of honey-colored maple vanity and chest-of-drawers; as well as an old, full-sized, iron and brass bed.  I have fifties cotton chenille bedspread in peach tones, along with some vintage table linens that could be upcycled.  I also have all the green pieces above.  I had also been struggling over what to do in regards to bedding, and trying to pick a wall color.  I had narrowed my colors for the entire room to fresh, Spring greens;  the occasional bump of sunny yellow; browns in the family of mocha and chocolate, and plenty of soft, warm peach and bold coral.  This sounds like a lot, but it isn’t.  Or I don’t think it will be, anyway.  *If* I manage to pick the right wallcolor!

I want the room to have a comforting, vintage French hotel feel…   I also need it to be relaxing.  I want it to have a fair amount of color, so that it fits in with the rest of our home.  And I need to use what I furnishings I already have wisely, so that it doesn’t look like I’ve hodge-podged the room with the leftovers. (Despite the fact that’s actually what I’m doing.)  Its quite the list, let’s see if I can finish by the end of April, shall we?!
