(Here is where I make promises to get September’s slate grey up before October!  I promise I’m gonna try!)

Is there any other season you think of more than Summer when you think of yellow?  Maybe it’s the hot, bright, sun; maybe it’s cold  lemon icebox pie and fun lemonade stands, but in my mind, bright yellow and Summertime are a combo.  A match.  A perfect pair.

So– it’s been no surprise to me, seeing this vibrant and youthful shade playing it up in fashionable places around town this Summer.  It knows it’s zany and kicky, and it is out to dazzle!  As far as I can tell, it’s doing a great job, too.

**CLOSE PAINT MATCH**  Well you know me, and I always choose a Benjamin Moore color, and this time is no exception– I’m fired up about “yellow.”  Seriously, that’s the name of it, it’s number 2022-10.  Don’t you just love a paint company that has so much chutzpa and confidence in their work that they can just call a color “yellow?”  I know they have a “gray” as well.   I think that’s a hoot.  Anyway, “yellow” and “sun porch” are probably my favorite of these intense Benjamin Moore colors.  I’m loving this color so much I’m trying to figure out how I can add just a splash to my dining room renovation….  I would absolutely love to paint the ceiling in there, but that room goes directly into the living room and hallway with no typical doorway breaks, and I don’t want to commit to that much yellow…  It would be a lot.  And speaking of the dining room, I spray painted two little square scalloped curios (one seen above) that I’d gotten at the thrift store– these babies were dark brown– and this Rust-Oleum Utra-Cover 2X in “sun yellow” (gloss) is AHMAHZING, it only needed one coat… for yellow!  I know, right, and the coat is gorgeous and vibrant and smoooooth.  That is a WIN product, for sure, I will seek it in other colors, I will, I. Am. Impressed.

**SPOT IT ON**  Lemons, rubber duckies, and taxicabs.  Ooh, what a weird mix!  No really, when seeking this color think happy, think bright, think vivid.  This is no buttery vanilla cream!  And it isn’t golden either, there is very little orange in this shade…  it’s more like it has ever the tiniest little bit of green to it.  Just a pinch.  This is feel-the-citrus-in-your-mouth *yellow.*

**PAIR IT WITH**  Really, there are a crazy amount of options here.  I’m starting to think that yellow is the goes-with-anything color of the season, and that’s saying a lot, because I’m going to talk about grey next month.  It really is so versatile.  If we’ve learned anything from pinterest this Summer, it’s that if you’re rocking a tan and some fierce highlights, you need to be wearing mint green and lemon yellow in some combination!  Get your flatter on, girl!  Really, this combo is everywhere, in nail art, on handbags, and in the most amazing chunky, milky jewelry.  But that isn’t all– to swing opposite of the light green pendulum, I find a delicious gradiation in colors when you pair this yellow with vivid chartreuse and other limes.   Not in huge sweeping amounts, mind you, I wouldn’t do a whole room in it, but with the balance of some clean neutrals like black and white, it is stunning.  And speaking of neutrals, this bright yellow becomes surprisingly nautical when paired with navy.   I have an old fitted navy blazer that I am *thisclose* to replacing the old dullsville fasteners with some hot yellow vintage buttons.  Watch me do it.  Jeans and flats will never look the same!  Oh and, –grey?  Don’t even get me STARTED on yellow and grey.  It is the hot baby’s room combo of the year, no doubt.  I would imagine that this has something to do with the recent trend of not finding out the sex of the baby during pregnancy, and this combo fits the bill of gender neutrality to an absolute tee.  You know that whoever you baby turns out to be, this room will be absolutely chic and and appropriate for your little life’s first years.  (Speaking of kiddo’s rooms, I am absolutely *dying* for one of these stools– below– and the matching awesome metal bar lamps in the same line for my boy’s room.  To quote the ever-so-stylish Andre 3000, “So fresh and so clean clean!”)

**CRAFT IT**  I’ve been stalking the fabric isles at the craft stores, and let me say– there is a lot of really wonderful stuff available in some really fresh yellow patterns right now.  Don’t go and look unless you’re really prepared to be tempted, it’s that kind of good.  I’ve been working on a dollhouse that should be centered around teal blue and purple, but I’ve been so passionate about this color that I keep throwing it in the mix.  (It’s okay, it needs it.)  And now it’s spread to the real-size house, I am contemplating some grand things with the vintage yellow toile curtain panels that I so adore and the windows in the dining room.  Oh no, I can’t just hang curtains like a normal person, I have to mess with them.  It should be alright.  It should be funkier and better when I’m done.  I’m trying to strike a balance with just the perfect amount of poppish yellow.

**EAT IT**  Mmmm, this one will be sooo easy, there is a lot of yummerz happenin’ in the bright yellow and delicious category.  Like maybe, try my super-easy Lemon Icebox Pie– dinerdinner.com/  (Yes, that is my food blog, go, do the recipe, but don’t judge that I don’t tend house over there very well.  I haven’t updated it since before we moved, almost a year ago.)   You could go with something involving slightly underripe banana in this category as well, but I just keep coming back to lemon.  I feel the *tart* in this color, you know?  It’s more acidic than a plain ol’, buttery banana.

**LISTEN TO IT**  Okay, this is a category that I don’t normally use, but I added it in this time because of Coldplay’s “Yellow.”  As the tune says, “I drew a line, I drew a line for you, oh what a thing to do, and it was all yellow.”  I’m not sure why drawing a yellow line is all awesome and romantic, but Chris Martin thinks it is, and something tells me ol’ Gwinnie Paltrow agrees.  So go draw a yellow line for the one you love!  Use a Bic Mark-It in “Yellow Blaze,” and I know they’ll appreciate it like no other yellow line that’s been drawn for them before….

**WEAR IT**  I mentioned above about a Navy blazer, and something traditional and tailored is a great place to start– throw some yellow in there, and suddenly it’s got a new zazz.  Freshen up a khaki skirt with a yellow lace top…. you can’t help but be pleasant in a look like that.  Heck, freshen up an old white eyelet top with a bold dyebath of brightness.  Dylon is a great brand for at-home fabric dyes. I think.  I also love a little yellow sundress with flip-flops (flops are on clearance now everywhere, and as they’re my houseshoes, I’m stocking up!) or simple sandals at this time of year.  Top it off like Adrock advises, “if you get a chill I’ma get you a shawl!”  And of course, don’t forget the aforementioned yellow polka dotted bikini.   (Be sure it’s well-lined though, I’m not saying you don’t have a great figure, ’cause you’re gorgeous, but we don’t need to see all that, if you catch my drift.)

**MY FAVES**  Gosh, it’s so hard to say with such a fun color….  I’m loving this vintage plastic pepper grinder/saltshaker duo that I recently got while thrifting.  And did you see that glass plate with the lemons?!  I have a little bowl too.  I need to figure out where to get some more of those, it’s like my glassware collection extended into dishes.  And lets not forget my gooorgeous fifties yellow toile curtain panels (seen top and bottom in the fabrics pic above.)  These things are so gorgeous in person, that I’ve already had about 5 people call ‘secondsies’ if I ever pass on them.  That are that kind of SWOON!
