In Which I Issue A Challenge–

Sheet / Pouch Bedding Bag Thingies

Sheet / Pouch Bedding Bag Thingies

Challenge One:  I buy a lot of singular bedding pieces– like a lone fitted sheet, or a duo of pillowcases– rather than complete bed sets.  Sometimes I buy them to actually go onto to the beds of this house, and sometimes I buy them with the explicit intention of cutting them up for sewing projects.  (I find flat sheets to be a much cheaper source of fabric yardage than even fabric stores.)  Regardless of my intent, this means I have a shocking amount of those little pouches that they all seem to come for sale in.  Seriously, I have like twenty of them.

I realize that they sell these things in bags made of the same fabric as the sheet intending that you store your bedding in them when not in use.  Who has time for this?  I fold things, and I stack them in the linen closet;  there is no time for creative rolling and mad tucking into tight little cotton pouches.  It’s just– not a behavior I am going to adopt at this point.  I’m a linen closet folder and stacker, and I suppose forever I shall be.  This leaves these things unused and completely without purpose….

But as stuck in the ruts of my old-fashioned ways as I obviously am, I am also enterprising.  I feel like I need to come up with a *use* for these little mojos, some sort of crafty project that we can maybe all use and relate to….  except I have yet to come up with anything.  Annnnything at all.  What about you guys, any ideas?  You know, other than use as a generic pouch, that is.  Surely if we try, we can think of something?  Lemme know if you have ideas…  I’ll come back and update ya’ll whenever I finally do.

Rusty-Boo And the Doormat

Rusty-Boo And the Doormat

Challenge Two:  I have this nice, thick, bristly doormat that functions really well.  Still doin’ its job, so no reason not to keep using it.  At one time it had the images of six super-sweet four leaf clovers printed on top, but due to years of foot traffic, they have mostly worn away to just subtle outlines.  (And I swear, this is going to sound like the craziest assertion ever, but it is less visible in person than it is in this picture.  Really!!!)

Point is, I don’t want to replace it, or I’m not going to, anyway.  And I definitely need something there, it’s not the job of my plushy blue area rug to get the outside muddies.  But it’s soooo sad looking.  The rest of the area is waking up and budding for spring;  the porch area has some new touches freshening it up… it’s one of the few tiny things about the *outside* looks of the house that I can realistically have representing us as a family, and it just isn’t.  It needs help.  We’re fun, and interesting, and youthful, and this is dreary, and colorless, and dull.  Obviously I can’t decoupage it, but paint is something I can totally do.  I dunno, I’m prone to just diving in and trying things most of the time, but maybe I should check the web for ideas first.  Anybody ever jazzed up a doormat before?  Ideas?  Beuller?  Beuller?
